Okay, not BBQ, but you NC boys, and any others, need to know about this place. Recently opened.
It’s on the southwest end of 268 where it meets 321 above Lenoir. I was making the run down 268 from Wilkesboro and saw that Happy Valley Filling Station is now open for business. Somebody has spent a WAD of cash on that remote place. I didn’t get to try the chow but I did try one of their in-house brewed beers before I made the run up 321 to Blowing Rock in the rain. It was not nearly as empty as my pictures make it look, plus they just recently opened, and it was 3:30 in the afternoon.

521 BBQ in Lancaster, SC
I was helping a colleague today down in SC and he treated me to lunch at 521 BBQ downtown Lancaster near the courthouse.
It was good! Both the ribs and brisket had a good flavor and were tender. They brought me some sauce and it was good. My friend had chicken wings and liked them. What surprised me the most was the baked beans. Some of the best I have had.
I’ll be with him next month in Spartanburg and he said he has a real treat for me:
Smoking Butt Heads

Just before leaving the house, I looked over "Patrick's BBQ trail" web page checking out what if any local joints I've missed.
There was a write-up on Dickie'Dos in Haw River NC
With nothing better to do I took a loopy-loop route to Haw River
Place is pricey, but I find you get what you pay for.
They don't really do sides, but I didn't miss them (maybe I'll return soon and see what they have
I went with the Brisket... a generous 1 pound plus plate. good tasty bark, a firm tug,,melt in your mouth brisket
Of course, as long as I was in the area... a short stop at Maple View Farms, for ice cream
the ride out to Haw River
Maple View Farms
