In my 52+ years of riding I've ran out of gas ONE time.

On a new bike with no fuel gage and I managed to get in between gas stations when I had to go on "reserve" and that wasn't enough to get me I had to be!
I had never paid attention while riding that bike around town to how few MPG's it was getting and simply dropped my guard when I got on the highway.

I never carry gas on my bike (even on my AK trip) but I always carry a siphon hose and now riding a Tri-Glide I pay close attention to the fuel gage and if I'm riding in rural areas that I'm not familiar with I start looking for gas stations at 1/2 tank of fuel.

I'm too old and that trike is far too heavy for me to push!

I have never carried an extra bottle of fuel and I have never run out of gas while touring the west or anywhere. I often travel on secondary roads. I make sure to be aware of the fuel situation and know when there will next be a fuel stop. When I am touring with friends, which is usual, we carry a plastic pump (still in the original packaging) in case we need to transfer fuel from one bike to another.

This is the furthest that I have ever gone between gas stops… You fuel up in Revelstoke on the way north, and that gas station is your next gas station… It means you have to drive all the way up to the Dam site and back and there are no gas stations… They have gas in Mica Creek, and I’m sure you can get some if you had to, but it’s all under lock and key. There also are no restaurants or stores… You take lunch up with you… It’s about a 195 mile Rounder…

A very lonely piece of highway… But very worthy of a ride and a day of your time… I worked in a construction camp about 2/3 of the way up the road and another 10 miles into the bush 40+ Years ago… That site is now a helicopter ski lodge

Never carried any extra but..
The 3 Sisters loop in Texas is the same. If you don't gas up in Medina... it's a pucker factor.
Roughly 169 miles 3 1/2 hrs. The first time on the Dyna I was almost pushing it to the station ...

Why not gas up in Leakey - 844 US Highway 83 or, in Camp Wood 103 E 4th St, Camp Wood ·

My Gold Wing carried 50% more fuel than my Road King and I never ran outta gas, it practically bitch-slapped me when the thing was down to one gallon. The Harley doesn't have a reserve and the indicator is inaccurate, misleading me to believe I had fuel when I didn't. I'm too old to be a pedestrian in the empty hills around my home where there's no cell service. Just glad I was able to coast so far and that it fired up on flat ground. Carrying a small amount of fuel on the bagger provides some peace of mind. That's just how I'm cut. I have two fire extinguishers, a tactical med kit (also one in saddlebag), winch, shovel and recovery kit in my truck. I figure nobody is coming...save yourself.

Earlier this year I left home after a couple cups of coffee. Fuel gauge was low but the light hadn't come on and I knew I would get off the slab in 30 miles to pee so decided to wait till then to fill up, so off I go. Pulled up to the pump just as the gas light, went for my wallet and 'Oh no". No wallet, no cash or change. Looked around to see if there was someone I might bum some gas from but no other cyclist and no cagers that I felt comfortable asking. No other option but to head home and hope I could make it that far. I didn't want to chance running out on the freeway so took the back roads, short shifted and kept it under 55. It was about 40 miles but I made it. I haven't added any extra fuel but I put a 10 dollar bill along with my registration papers just in case I forget my wallet again.

I have noticed my road king gauge being not consistent. Usually reset the trip meter, but sometimes....
Never ran her out but have noticed that 1/4 mark compared to how much I put in???? doesn't equal 6 gallons. In other words, not always the same.
Not often an Arkansas problem. but good to think about if I get out west again

ST, GLAD u made it back. Now u need to remember the $10 is there.

I say that since I stashed some $ someplace, I sometimes forget I did it.

Maybe with your insurance papers, since here in FL at least, u change ur insurance card every 6 months and will see it. Know what I mean?

Maybe once a year with your registration IS good.

But I think u know what I mean.

Again mate, GLAD u made it back.
