RE: Gatlinburg to Nashville (Please help).
We normally take Hwy 70 to hwy 96 and then go through Murfeesboro straight to Franklin. Normally takes us 5 or so hours at least. But it's scenic and thats what its all about. By the way, we have had several bear calls in our area lately. We chased a bear away from a motel swimming pool last week. Fun to watch, but never get between a mom and her cubs.

The wife and I are headin to the Smokey Mtn arealeaving this Saturday. We'll be staying about 10 miles south of Robbinsville. We are also planning to stay one night in Asheville then on to Nashville on the way home back to Houston. I think I'll take that US 70 route instead of I-40. We are planning to ride the BRP, Cherohala, and the Dragon while were there. Can't wait.

Thank you everyone for the responses. It is still a toss up between just taking I40 or 70; it is going to depend on how much time I have left of my time I'm taking for this trip. I might even be sick and tired of scenic roads after the 800+ miles of the skyline and brp; probably not but you never know! I'll try the Pancake Pantry... I might have been there before, but it doesn't sound familiar.
Now back to the I40 route. Someone told me that I40 is stillan awesome ride.. is that true? I don't mind flying on the highway if the scenes are nice.
Thanks again, Ralph

ManI'm so excited about this trip... just about two more weeks and it will begin!!!
I'm going to add one more town to it. I've decided to goto Mephis prior to Nashville. Going to spend one day/evening in each town. A friend of mine told me while in Nashville to just go to 2nd street and start visiting all the bars. He really recommended Tin Pan Alley for seeing some fresh talent. I'm also going to visit the Grand Ole Opry hotel.
Oh well... i just wanted to share my excitement with someone!!! see you good folks later!

Just got home from the Front Royal to Cherokee trip.. Left Indiana on US 50 to Winchester VA then South on the Skyline and BRP to Cherokee. Took the Cherohala to Tellico plains and then 68 to 58 to 70 to 27 to 127 to 421 and then home. You can take 68 from Tellico Plains all the way to Nashville. Local told me this was a great ride from Cherohala Scenic Highway to Nashville. We took back rodes and State Hwy's no Interstates except for about 20 miles. Di 1800 mile in 8 days had a great time all motels were friendly and every bike rider we met were great. Have a great trip. We left our leathers at home and only needed rain suits for about 15 minutes. Have fun
