With work, weather and Covid our bikes have not been started since August 26th.

Not to mention that Belinda has a leaking right fork seal. Hopefully I’ll get started on this repair tomorrow. I have the new seals and oil. Just need to do it!

Finally today we feel great, the weather is perfect and the BBQ was calling our names.

We rolled out this morning around 10 am and Rode east on Hwy 64 to Asheboro. Our first stop of the day was at *** HD. There was a very good crowd there. A local club called “Dirty Deeds” was having a fund raiser for Their President who unfortunately has cancer. We could not stay and eat, or do the ride, but we donated $40.00 dollars. I hope they raised a lot for him today.

Ginger ran GREAT and we both really enjoyed getting our knees in the breeze again.

We left out of the dealership heading to meet a fellow forum member. We had a BBQ destination in mind and I knew one of our members did not live too far from there. I reached out yesterday and invited him and he was all in. We both rolled into The Broken Spit at the same time. This is a little off the beaten path in Siler City. All I can say is WOW, what amazing food!

Delicious burnt ends!

A big thank you to Mark for joining us. It was great to get to know him better and enjoy a fantastic meal together.

When we parted ways the Carolina Girl and I ran on up to the little town of Staley. Our HOG chapter challenge is getting A selected group of Daniel Boone markers. We grabbed another since we were so close.

Only one more to go and we’ll have all 8 of them.

Afterwards we took some back roads to Winston-Salem and stopped at Smokin HD.

Then on the way home we stopped in downtown Mocksville at the Station. When we arrived there one one bike. By the time we left there where 8 or 9. Unfortunately there was not a band playing tonight. We walked down Main Street to the ice cream shop and enjoyed some ice cream to top off a wonderful day.

The total mileage today was 188.

Default October 2023

This weekend was a beautiful weekend her in the Carolinas. While a little windy in the AM, both Saturday and Sunday were about as nice as it gets this time of year.

The Carolina Girl volunteered to work Saturday morning until noon. I got up early and finished all the trimming in the yard and cleaned the gutters. Then I installed the Gerbing plugs on Ginger getting ready for some cold weather riding.

Around 1:30pm we rolled out westbound toward the Twin Cities that tobacco built. Our first stop was in Clemmon's at Pete's for a wonderful lunch. There was a sweet 64 Ford in the parking lot when we arrived.

We rolled on over to Smokin HD in Winston and Jeff was about to take the bike in ASAP for a safety inspection. We got to see Jeff and Charlie, Eric and Eric, Mike and Susan. All those folks are awesome, and they have a very good inventory of bikes at this time including an Icon and two Anniversary editions.

A funny thing happened. The guy that purchased our 2022 CVO Limited new (Ginger) was there. We met him for the first time. He traded this yellow CVO in after only 10 months of ownership for a new 120th Anniversary edition Road Glide. I learned he traded that bike in after only three months for a new 2023 Fast Johnnie with the 135-crate motor installed. His latest bike is pictured below.

After a nice afternoon we rolled over to The Station in downtown Mocksville for a Red Oak and a chance to just chill and talk to the other bikers there. We ran into several people and what was going to be 30 minutes turned in to over two hours and we arrived home just after dark.

The total trip mileage for Saturday was 75.1. Not a lot of miles but spending it with my lovely wife on two wheels was priceless.

Annual Fall Colors Ride to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

After sleeping in, having a couple of cups of coffee and an egg sandwich it was time to head north to the BRP to see if we can find some color in the trees. It was 62 degrees and sunny here when we rolled out. In Wilkesboro it was 65 degrees at 1000-foot elevation when we rolled by the Wilkesboro Motor Speedway on Hwy 421.

We leaned right off Hwy 421 onto Hwy 115 and then right again onto Hwy 18 North.

Traffic was very heavy on 421, but we found it light on Hwy 18 as we climbed the mountain.

The Blue Ridge Parkway tunnel at Laurel Springs. That is the old Stations Inn straight ahead.

Default Fall Colors Ride 2023 Continued

Ride Continued:

We were early for lunch, so we leaned right to the Parkway and went North Bound (Southbound is CLOSED).

It was beautiful up on the Parkway. We saw about two dozen bikes and about the same number of cars. I'm sure the low traffic count is do to the Parkway being closed both directions. Off Hwy 18 at Laurel Springs, you cannot go southbound to Hwy 16 because of a bridge replacement. Northbound you can go to Daughton Park, but cannot get to Hwy 21 due to a road collapse.

I thought this old dead tree was really cool.

The "Tree of Life"!

The picture above is the new background on my computer!

At 3700 feet we dropped from 65 degrees down to 52 degrees!
