T.G.I. BBQ Friday
BBQ Friday
Looking at the crazy weather forecast I decided to take today off and spend it on two wheels with the Carolina Girl. Yeah, 82 degrees today and only 62 degrees high on Saturday.
Our first stop was at the local Sheetz for some 93 octane. WOW only $3.69 a gallon!
Our next stop was in Lexington, NC for a biscuit and coffee.
Gonemad recommended the Redneck BBQ Lab in Benson, NC. I had not had my BBQ fix for the week, it’s close to our good friend Rob and we don’t need much of an excuse to ride.
We rolled out at 0900 and met Rob at the restaurant at 12:30pm. The BBQ did not disappoint, weather was fantastic, we enjoyed catching up with Rob and the return ride was perfect.
This was the first time we have seen Rob’s Road King in person. Sweet bike!
I enjoyed the ribs! Delicious!
The Carolina Girl only had a sandwich. But she did help herself to one of my ribs.
Would I go back? Hell Yeah.
After lunch we followed Rob over to Bulldog HD formerly Sheldon’s HD. We had been to this location before, about 10 years ago.
We parted ways at the dealership. The Carolina Girl and I jumped on I-95 southbound to exit #73 for Dunn, NC. This is Hwy 421 north and we stayed on it to Siler City where we caught Hwy 64 west all the way back to Davie County. Returned home safely at 7:00pm.
At 9am it was 55 degrees. At 10am it was 65 degrees and at 11am it was 72 degrees. We were ready to take out jackets off at the restaurant as it was nearing 80 degrees. Of course a cooler 80 in October. We ran without jackets up until Asheboro, NC where we stopped for a water and snack. It was down to 75 degrees and the sun was dropping so the jackets felt good again.
Thanks for riding along.

We have ridden to Siler City a few times for a cheeseburger at Johnson's. People were standing outside waiting on them to open when we went by. Glad to see they are doing well. I have to say the hispanic's look like they are taking over Siler City.
Let's plan a ride sometime.

Two good rides in two days. The weather man woman missed the forecast today. I woke up at 6 am and it was 56 degrees out and felt good. The Carolina girl volunteered to work today until noon. I took her to work and got busy around the house with some projects I needed to complete. In no time she was calling me to come and pick her up. Much to my surprised she asked me if we could ride again today since it was so nice. She wanted to ride up to Freebornes on the BRP for lunch. I wanted to put a few more miles on Olivia before taking her to the dealership tomorrow so that worked out very good.
We put an extra layer of clothing on and headed north. I stopped at Sheetz in Yadkinville for some 93 go juice and it was $3.59 a gallon which was cheaper than our first fill up yesterday.
There were a lot of bikes on the road today. In no time we passed the Wilkesboro Motor Speedway and leaned right onto Hwy 18 north. The ride up the mountain was at a smooth steady pace with a couple of cars ahead of us. As we went though Wilkesboro the temp-o-meter registered 62 degrees. When we crossed the top of the mountain into Alleghany County the temp instantly dropped to 57 degrees.
We were late getting to Freebornes. There was a large group of twelve bikes leaving as we rode in which allowed us to park right in front.
It’s always Nice to get our hugs from Diane and Ashley. We miss Cheryl but it does not look like she will return.
A group Of four were having a birthday ride. About twenty of us in the bar area sang happy birthday to her and it was funny because none of us knew her name!
The food and service are always good and we left with full bellies. Much to our surprise the motel was fully booked!
The fired mushrooms were HUGE today!
With the bridge out on the BRP between Hwy 16 and 18 it crimps out style and we back tracked down 18 to Wilkesboro and rolled into Crossroads HD to say hello.
They had one of the new Apex paint Limited’s on the floor. It was nice to see one in person.
I was expecting to walk out without spending a dime today, but Arnie talked me into a new Custom Dynamics “ProBeam” headlight for the CVO. He assures me it will not fog up, and should it fog they will replace it no questions asked. I am sick of the HD headlight. Hopefully it will be much brighter also with a longer beam pattern.
Total mileage today was 134.1

Time for 5k service on Belinda
When we returned home I cranked up Belinda and took her for a quick spin. I needed to warm all the fluids so I can do the 5k service.
I stopped at the Sheetz near our house and they wanted $3.69 gallon for 93. We live near I-40 so they can apparently get $.10 cents more a gallon than the station that is 13 miles north of I-40.
I ran through downtown Mocksville and they have streets blocked with some type of festival going on. I ran east on Hwy 158 and jumped on I-40. It was a quick 16.1 miles and she was good and warm. I dropped the fluids in all three holes. I’ll adjust the clutch which needs some attention and also install our new Trask see through primary cover.
It was a really good day! Tomorrow I’ll be solo again on Olivia taking her to Smokin HD.

Well Cosmic you are inspiring me to go east from my place in Catawba. I’ve run north to Boone and rode the BRP back to Burnsville a couple times. I have also ventured up into Va but not much. I would like to try the Skyline Dr sometime but it may be next spring before I can carve out the time for that. I love this area for riding and site seeing, beats the heck out of Florida for sure.

Dang that stinks on the gas prices. Guess we cannot complain. NC used to be in the top 10 for highest state gas taxes. Not sure where we stack up now. I really appreciate your kind works. Those statements and the likes I get make it worth while to post. As long as people enjoy the ride reports I keep sharing. Our plan it to get back to some long rides again next year, God willing. Ride safe
