Because of all the fruitcake jokes and horrible fruitcakes, I'm always hesitate to recommend or gift a fruit cake. But Southern Supremes' Fruitcakes are excellent! I stopped by the other day and picked up a few things for gifts.

That also may explain why there was such a huge crowd at Carthage's Christmas Parade last Saturday evening...

Default Shot Tower State Park

Saturday December 23, 2023

Yesterday was a beautiful day here in NC and VA. Our daughter and SIL have been with us since Thanksgiving and get back on the road Friday after Christmas. We wanted to have a special day with them outdoors. I suggested going up to Shot Tower State Park and walking the trails along the new river.

We started our day at ACE Cafe in Yadkinville. One of our favorite cafe’s. The lady that runs it and her mother are so special. You will always startup a conversation with folks at a different table while there.

I love this sign on the wall at the counter at Ace’s.

My lovely daughter at breakfast.

Our next stop was at 67 Hardware in Jonesville right at I-77. They have everything you could ever need, if you can find it! LOL

I did buy a brick (500 rounds) of CCI Stinger. That stuff is hard to find now days.

We hit I-77 northern bound and in no time we arrived at the border of the “Lovers” state and climbed up through the gap, passed under the BRP and quickly arrived at the Shot Tower.

In the parking lot was a very nice young lady from Florida heading to family in Ohio. We talked with her a while, shared some history of the shot tower and invited her and her dog to walk with us. It was very nice getting to know her and she gave us all a very big hug when we parted ways.

I have led group rides to the Shot Tower before and it’s super nice to see the parking lot paved now!

Along the trail northbound toward Fosters Falls.

Once at Fosters Falls we learned that the Inn is now complete renovated and open for business. They were have a special dinner that night in the restaurant and we met with Brian who has the state contract to operate the Inn. He shared with us a lot of the history of the region and how the Inn was built in the 1800’s for the executives of the iron ore mining company back in the day.

The inn is absolutely beautiful. After the major flood a 100 years ago the wash out the trail bridge the ore company closed. The Inn was sold to a church and it served for years as a home for young girls. Later it became an orphanage for boys and girls. Finally the State of Virginia took over and it’s been a 20 year renovation. The the front porches, windows and the roof which were done first cost $15 million. The interior was gutted and is absolutely beautiful. There are only 10 rooms and one large honeymoon suite which has two fire places. They are between $200 and $300 per night.

Brian and his brother own many properties along the River that they rent. Very nice people from the Charlotte, NC area.

The Carolina Girl and I look forward to going back and spending a couple of nights.

Our new friend Emily from Florida. We really enjoyed getting to know her. I learned that she was born in Pennsylvania. I asked if she had ever heard of Beaver Falls and was shocked to learn that was were she was born! Beaver Falls is the home of Pro-Action Suspension! I also learned that she used to ride a V-Rod. She is on a smaller sport bike now.

Zach and Theo at the rear entrance of the Inn where you park to load.

They are very horse friendly in this area and on the trail.

The total walk was 3.5 miles and we really had a great time.

A few more bonus pictures from the area.

Once we left our next destination was Harmony’s Western Outlet in Woodlawn, VA. It’s a cool shop and I picked up a really nice pair of Ariat jeans.

If you have never been there you owe it to yourself to shop in and see the Museum. It is amazing the collection of Civil War artifacts, Indian artifacts and just cool stuff from the 1800’s into the 1900’s. And it is totally FREE.

It’s getting late now and time for dinner. I suggested Macado’s in downtown Galax, VA. You also have the Galax Smokehouse just a few doors down if you want BBQ.

God Bless and Merry Christmas.

Remember the reason for the season, Jesus Christ.

Please don’t leave earth without him.

Christmas Eve 2023

It was an amazing beautiful warm 67 degree day here in the Piedmont of North Carolina.

We slept in and the Carolina Girl made egg and bacon biscuits for breakfast and we polished off a couple of pot of coffee.

I helped my SIL with a project on his Airstream trailer that could not have gone smoother and turned out very nice. He was thrilled.

Following the Carolina Girl and I decided to take Belinda for a spin and cranked up the tunes. We hit three counties on back country roads for a total of 86.5 miles. It was a wonderful ride. Traffic was fairly light and we saw a total of maybe 12 other bikes out.

Default 2024 Carolina Full Throttle Bike Show

Last Saturday, January 13th, Lincoln, Maggie and Molly of The Carolina’s Full Throttle Magazine held their 2nd annual bike Show at the Greensboro Coliseum.

The first one last January was excellent. We had a great time and have been looking forward to this year. I’m happy to report that this year was even better!

I’ll start with the Carolina girl’s favorite picture of the event:

There were a lot of beautiful bikes on display in many different categories.

This is a beautiful Honda 750 Chopper. We have seen it at some other shows also. This guy gets around.

You gotta love this Logo.

Amazingly clean Norton.

Default Bike show continued…

Okay, time for my favorite photo. I have been a huge fan of Karen for several years. She is a fixture at all the major bike rallies. I’ll not say much about her right now. Let me know if you know who she is!

This beautiful bike belongs to our buddy Jake from Smokin HD.

Interesting Pan American

They had a couple of really good bands playing throughout the day.
