Best month for a 4corners Fall trip?
I asked a few months ago this same question, but at the time the plan was to do a 4 corners trip originally in April to May, but was advised that roads could be still closed and snow on the ground in some areas, so I pushed it to late June through July... Well now something has come up in that month so was thing... what is the best Fall month or two to drive from Florida up the East coast, then over to Michigan to visit friends, then take the ferry over to the Harley Davidson Museum, then back towards Missouri for another friend visit, then the long trek West through the Rocky Mountains, towards San Jose, CA, for a ride down the coast, then over to the Grand Canyon, then Three Sisters in Texas, back home... about 6 weeks, give or take.
Thanks in advance.

Early September thru mid-October. However, you need to check conditions thru the Rockies. We did a round-trip NY to Utah RV trip 2 years ago. Generally, weather conditions were very conducive for riding with proper layering. However, we did have slushy snow thru the Rockies. I'm not sure if that was an aberration, but I would double-check before hitting that section.

IF it was me planning this trip, if possible I'd go earlier but no later than early August leading into September.
That is for heading north up the east coast and then heading west.
Here in Michigan the Labor Day weekend (at times) seems to be the start of the rainy season and I'd suggest that you keep a constant watch on the weather conditions (especially in the higher elevations as you head west) as weather as a tendency to change both quickly and radically in the mountains.
Wet is one thing, but cold and wet is much worse, and sleet and hail......well that can be just a wasted day and trying to keep a schedule is nearly impossible.
Sounds like a fun trip though so ride safely and let us know how it goes!

Above 5,000 ft, it can snow any day of the year.... I have chained up in August to get over Mountain passes back in my truck driving days.... the shoulder season can be iffy... My suggestion is to be out of the mountains before the middle of October... a six week ride from Sept 1 to Oct 15 is a good target.

I'd say anywhere between late August to October. If you're coming through NM, try to make it to Albuquerque (where you're supposed to make that "left toin") in the first week, so you can see the International Balloon Fiesta (The most photographed event in the world!). You definitely DON'T want to miss it!! It's always the first full week of October, and the skies are filled with hundreds of balloons (I think they're soon going to have pretty close to 1000 balloons (definitely over 930), for this event). This would probably be a good stop between the Grand Canyon and Three Sisters in TX.
