Trip Planning
A few year ago I tried the HD Trip Planner, but had issues with the Waypoints. Someone recommended another Trip Planner, but now the new Boom GTS on my 2019 Ultra won't pick up GPX files on the USB drive from the trip planner. However, I just checked and the HD Trip Planner and the Boom GTS does read them.
Has HD improved their Trip Planning Software?
What is everyone using for trip planning?

I have not used the HD trip planner for quite some time.... had issues with it and found the Honda Powersports trip planner and that works well for me. I like to plan a route, any side trips etc.... then print out directions or make my own map. I can't say anything about how either system moves or works with or downloads to anything. I don't use those systems. I like a map and simple directions. I do use my phone or garmin gps for help along the way, but usually on our trips we are interested in the ride and if we get lost, oh well!!! Check the Honda powersport planner....maybe there is something there useful??

I use Google Maps while sitting at my desk to plan my summer trips because it is user friendly and I can look outside my window at the beautiful snowy landscape while working on it. Once I know my route I create a ride in the HD Ride Planner so I can upload it into my 2016 FLTRU. The HD trip planner is not as user friendly as Google Maps and has a rather steep learning curve IMO, but I really like having my entire route available to me hands free while riding, and the turn by turn audio instructions can't be beat. I love maps and always take an atlas with me while travelling, but more than once I have been enjoying the trip so much that I would have missed a turn if not for the gentle reminder in my ear. Plus if you do take a wrong turn or get forced off on a detour, or just see a road that looks interesting, the GPS automatically reroutes you, you don't even have to stop. I have traveled to Florida from Michigan on several different routes using this setup, In 2017 I rode from lower Michigan north into Canada then west all the way to the smokey Canadian Rockies then south to smokey Glacier National Park then back east and home along US2. Last year I rode west through IL, MO, OK, TX, NM, CO, UT, NV, to smokey northern California and then back home along I-80. I relied on the HD ride planner for all these trips and it performed flawlessly every time. I haven't finalized any trips for this year yet, but I hope they don't involve smoke again.

I use Butler maps and a Zumo GPS. I keep the nights accommodation as a favourite so I can check how much of the day we have to ride and still make it there when we want, then I’ll enter waypoints as we travel (pretty easy to do at a fuel/rest stop) This allows us to easily change routes if there’s something to ride/see (often local recommendation) or avoid (also local recommendation, like a section of road construction in Montana using water on dirt for dust control). The only thing I know for sure when we leave is how many days we have and a proposed circle route
