Why not all the stopping? Not everyone's into a ***** out big *** hurry to get there, rally isn't going anywhere and it's boring after day 2. There's god's own riding country between where he starts and Sturgis if you take the time to enjoy it.
OP why the eastern route ? Nebraska is boring as f**k on a good day not to mention the suck central plains weather. Look into a more westerly route and stay in the mountains, Tetons, Yellowstone, maybe Glacier then into Sturgis and take your route home, better bike country and can't beat the scenery
His rt looked like he is going in a straight line.Most of the time when I ride I make a 1000 miles away into 1500 miles If I was going to stop every night at 200 miles or so not much of a ride for me. I like to do maybe 300 miles maybe take 10 hours or so.
Also wondering if we're best off hittinh highway 330 for some more bends and views or is it better to follow the main highway?
Depends on how you feel and how big of hurry to get to hotel after a long days ride.
I recommend making extra time to visit Mesa Verde, Durango, Silverton and Ouray. You may decide to take quickest route to 70. Maybe to Grand Junction and skip route through Mesa Forest.
Million $ Hwy is spectacular. Take your time on that route. Then decide at Montrose.
Grand Junction is not my favorite stop but it is quicker and has many hotels on I-70 near airport.

Day-1 - I would route Las Vegas to Oatman, AZ then to Williams. The first part of the ride will be boring as hell... but so is Las Vegas to Kingman.... take the Oatman route... well worth it.
Oatman is a great Wild West "Ghost Town" with some fantastic twisties and you will get to spend more time on Route 66.
Williams is a great patriotic town on Route 66. I always enjoy going there, the mayor is great. Can't go wrong with Williams, AZ.
And if you go through Vail.... Woody Creek Tavern was Hunter S. Thompson's favorite watering hole. "Famous" for their Bloody Mary's but still an interesting place if you are into Hunter's writing.

I'm looking now at staying around Silvertown on the 3rd night instead of Grand Junction, somewhere between Rifle and Vail instead of Steamboat the next night and then continuing to Cheyenne. Looks like there's so much good riding around the area and don't want to miss any of it.
Dr.Tiki, I was actually looking at the Sitgreaves pass the other day and wanting to do that. Was thinking as long as the weathers kind to us we'll head that way, if it's rainy and crappy will go the most direct route. Haven't seen Vegas without blue skys on TV shows in Aus. Looks like beautiful weather pretty much all the time.

Silverton CO has limited lodging and restaurant. Stay in Ouray instead. Make early reservations.
You will enjoy going over Vail Pass and through Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 East instead of Steamboat. Do Not go all into Denver. Cut off and go to Boulder. Hwy119 through Blackhawk is spectacular. Casinos in Blackhawk for the night or into Boulder. Or Hwy 93 throught Golden where Coors is brewed to Boulder is quicker. Then over to I-25 and up to Cheyenne.
We go Hwy 85 to Lusk WY. If you have time go Hot Springs and Hwy 16A Custer State Park to Mt Rushmore.

Another suggestion.
I don’t go through Grand Junction. It is boring. I cutoff Hwy 50 at Delta CO Hwy 92 go to Hotchkiss. It follows Gunnison River and orchards. Stop for peach pie. Then Hwy 133 over McClure Pass into Redstone and then Carbondale. Then up Hwy 82 to Glenwood Springs. There is a HD dealer in Glenwood if you need anything. Then I-70 to Vail, etc.
