Not sure you'll find anyone here who's actually taken one of these tours. It seems like a whole lot of money for something you can do yourself fairly easily. For me planning is part of the fun and it helps me get through the winter (although that may not be an issue if you're from Florida).

Google Maps and Google Earth are great tools. You can save routes to My Maps for future reference. As previously stated Google Earth is a good tool to check out road conditions (especially if a road is paved or not). Another good resource is Butler Motorcycle Maps to help locate the best motorcycle roads.

I too look for Best Westerns, they are indeed biker friendly and have a good rewards program, plus almost all of them have free breakfasts.

There are plenty of straight desert roads in that area, but for many of us the twisties are what we are looking for, and there are plenty of those as well. If you want mountain scenery, expect some steep, winding roads. Also depending on when you're going be prepared for hot, dry weather. It really sucks the moisture out of your body, so hydration is key.

how can 1 person be $4800 but 2 people be $2940?

I'm thinking its $2940 "per person" in line 1 for a total cost of around $6000 for a couple (2 people).

We did a similar tour, but 14 days, in Europe for our Honeymoon. Well worth every penny and it was amazing. But that was six different foreign countries, different languages, before the ease of modern GPS systems etc.

From Miami to LA you can ship your bike for about $750 each way. Bring a GPS or your phone. Nothing scary or challenging about that route and everyone speaks English out West. Even using $250/night as an average for hotel rooms, which is high, you can do much better by yourself. Those tours are setup fro people coming from other countries that have all the same problems I had in Europe. For a US citizen, it comes off too expensive.

Harley doesn’t rent bikes anymore... Eagle Rider handles all the rentals... I would rent the bike and tour myself if it was me.

That's correct. All prices are per person.

Renting VS shipping depends on how long the trip is going to be. Pretty much once you pass one week, it is cheaper to ship your own bike. Plus I would rather have my bike anyway, if it was even money. When we did the West Coast two summers ago, we were on the road for 14 or 15 days, way cheaper then renting. Good luck.

I never rent. If I can't ride to the destination, then I don't go. The price of renting a bike is ridiculous.
