Back of the Dragon is a good ride. You can follow Rt 16 all the way to within sight of the New River Gorge bridge if you are so inclined. Runs through what is left of the southern WV coalfields. War and Welch WV have some pretty interesting history.
Definitely on my bucket list for this fall. I've rode tail of dragon and enjoyed it. I regularly ride route 8 here in Virginia and enjoy it just as much. .
Did the whole trip last month....all down thru Tenn and NC....agree that Back is better than tail...no traffic....a lot longer!.....also check the Snake outside of Bristol...hwy421??...in Shady valley...! Enjoy..
Just returned from a quick 3 day trip to that area again.. Met up with some old buddies from Florida to Virginia and had a great time.. Weather was nice cool mornings and t shirt days .. Be Safe ..
