My son's band plays at the Surf Ballroom every year for the Halloween costume party. Here are a few pictures from when we visited the crash site. 1 - the glasses mark the spot on the road where you need to walk the fence line to the actual crash site, 2 - the walk to the crash site is about a quarter mile, 3 - the ever changing memorial at the crash site. It was a very moving experience for me.

Also appreciate the comment on the ride to the site. I figured it might be a gravel road. We'll have several touring bikes in our group, some pulling trailers. Do you think there would be any issues for us?
Thanks again!

As I recall the road to the site is gravel but not loose gravel so maybe bikes will be okay. I was in a car so no problem of course. Here is another photo from Google Earth that shows the location (yellow stick pin) in relation to Clear Lake. You can see the Mason City Airport in the picture so it gives you a good indication of how quickly the poor souls went down.
