Default Hwy 12 between Missoula, MT. and Kooskia ID.

Planning my trip home from MT back to Seattle and thought this route looked interesting on the map. I know from experience that just because a route looks good on the map does not necessarily equate to a nice ride.

Anyone ever taken this route before? Worth while? Skip it?

Thanks in advance.

This is a bucket list ride for sure. A quick search on this forum will tell you that! Ride it if you have chance.

Curves, next 99 miles

Added, We do it both ways, but riding from Lewiston/Kooskia puts you on the Clearwater river side. Even though it is uphill, the grade is mild. Run it in late July or August, and stop on one of the turnouts, tear your clothes off and jump into the Clearwater. You won't be the first. Police patrols keep the pace moderate. Curves are tight sweepers, not hairpins. Road condition is excellent, at least they were last summer.

Ride it! Beautiful road along the river with nothing but corners.

Just rode it Saturday, nice ride. Good lunch at Lochsa Lodge.
Did not go all way to Lewiston.

Still have family in Montana and have friends in Lewiston area and made that ride many times. Just had a strong storm roll through here so suggest checking the weather, dont suggest riding at dawn or dusk cause of animals and give yourself plenty of time to stop and enjoy walk down to the river. Have fun!

I have been up it and down it. I doubt all the straight road in 99 miles would add up to 5 miles. Like Roundhead said .... lunch at Lochsa. And if possible, stay in one of the cabins. One of the quietest and darkest places I have stayed. And the lodge is amazing.

That route is very well known amongst the cycling community as an 'A+' route.

Check out http://www.motorcycleroads.com/ for an amazing computerized map for rides in the U.S.

Default Hwy 12

Oh yeah, def. ride the LOLO! Take a snack to enjoy at the rest area. Beautiful air, view and place to stretch and enjoy being out there on two wheels. Headed that way in two weeks.
