Western Sheboygan County to the UP
Going to be doing the trip around Lake Michigan clockwise starting in Western Sheboygan County. Would like to get to Munising the first day. What would be the most enjoyable, relaxing route? I am looking at taking Hwy 57/32 north to Green Bay then Hwy 141 to Hwy 41 into Marinette. From there jump on M35 to Escanaba. Taking Hwy 2 out of Escanaba to Forest Hwy 13 (just west of Moss Lake) north to M28 then M28 West into Munising.
I am looking to stay off of 4 lane slabs as much as possible and gravel roads as well. Does anyone know if Forest Hwy 13 is paved? Any other suggestions out of Green Bay to Marinette to stay off of Hwy 141/41? There is lots of info in the forums on the UP or coming down Michigan's west shoreline from the UP but didn't see any info on the wisconsin side.

I travel from just north of Green Bay to Marinette frequently. Actually heading to Menominee just across the MI border to my favorite Thai restaurant. Get on County J out of Green Bay to Little Suamico, then pick up County S to Oconto, then County Y to Marinette. Nice ride along the shore of Green Bay with light traffic. However, being that close it would be a shame to miss Doc's Harley just west of Green Bay on Highway 29. It's an adventure. http://www.docshd.com/

NF-13 is paved, but not a very nice ride. You could either take 41 to Trenary then 67 to 94 and into Munising or 2 to Manistique and 94 to Munising. If you're not in a rush I suggest 35 North at Gladstone to 41/28 just west of Marquettte then East on 28 to Munising along the Superior shoreline to Munising. If you're goal is to ride 58 toward Grand Marias take some time to stop at Miner's Castle just East of Munising, you won't regret it. There are other great sights to see as you go East, Tahquamenon Falls, Whitefish Pt Lighthouse, Iroqouis Lighthouse, Sault Locks, etc. all along the Superior shoreline.

The only 4 lane highway in the U.P. is I-75, with the exception being a short section of 41 between Escanaba and Gladstone. NF-13, NF meaning National Forest Rd, pavement is in poor repair. 35, 41, 28 and 58 are all two lane roads with better than average condition. 58 is a little rough coming out of Munising, but it gets better as you head East.

We are def going to be riding H58 from Munising to Gran Marais. Also planning on taking in Miners castle as well. I was just looking for a scenic/relaxing ride from Escanaba to Munising. I will take your advice Tick and take 41 to 67 to 94 to Munising.
From Gran Marais what route do you recommend to Taquamenon Falls, whitefish point and sault st Marie? 77 to 28 to north on Falls Road looks out of the way unless the quality of their roads is not good. Thanks again for your advice

I suggest S on 77 to 28, then east to Newberry turning North onto 123 to the Falls. If you continue on 123 toward Paradise make a left to go to Whitefish Pt lighthouse and the Shipwreck Museum or if you turn right at Paradise (123) after about 10 miles South is Curly Lewis Hwy. Turn left (East) and this will follow the the shoreline past Iroquouis Lighthouse, Bay Mills Casino and into the town of Brimley. The Soo is about another 15 miles East.

I really like Marquette so I recommend taking 41 North to Marquette. Visit the Harley dealership and then head east on 28 to Munising.
The ride on 28 between Marquette and Munising is very nice. It runs along the Superior shore for 40 miles with some very nice scenic pull offs.
I don't know how much time you have but Marquette is a great town with plenty of good places to eat and drink. Definitely worth a over night stay if you have time.
