Gulf Coast to West Coast
Last month, headed out on the 2013 Ultra Limited. Went up to Mena AR and was riding the Tallihena Trail. When I crossed into OK a deer came out and ran into the Ultra.
I flew back home to get the 2005 Road King, Ultra Limited was headed to Old Fort Harley.
While my flight was delayed in Dallas I decided to get a new 2016 Road Glide Ultra.
Took off again the next night on the Road Glide Ultra and rode to Grand Canyon NP South stopping in Amarillo for 1000 mile service on the way. My gas cap was defective like a lot of the 2016 models but they didnt have any.
On down to Joshua Tree NP through Lake Havasu. When I came out of Joshua Tree I headed over to Palm Desert and rode the Palm to Pines highway and onto the Top of the World highway. Strange thing the kickstand stripped out and I had to go down into San Bernardino to get another one. Quaid Harley hooked me up on the kickstand but still no gas cap available.
Back onto Top of the World highway and over to Mulholland drive. Rode around in the Hollywood Hills. Road to the Hollywood sign was closed. I then rode up and down the Coast Highway by Malibu to the pier at Santa Barbara and up to Neptune's Net. Up toward San Francisco on the coast highway where I cruised around town and rode up in the hills by the Golden Gate bridge. After riding the Coast to OR via Redwoods and Avenue of the giants I headed up to Crater Lake NP. I met up with some guys riding the Coast and rode with them a couple of days. They headed on up toward Washington into Canada when I turned off to go to Crater Lake.
Headed back South the next evening toward Yosemite I stopped over in South Lake Tahoe for the night, heading over the pass and in to Yosemite the next day. Lost my phone in Yosemite the next night so I headed down to Fresno to get a phone and get my 5000 mile service. Matthew's Harley has a great museum and some great people.
On down through the mountains through Kings Canyon and Sequoia NP checking out the largest tree in the world.
Next stop Death Valley where it was 119 or 120 degrees. Headed over to Vegas from there. Pointed the Road Glide Ultra toward Utah the next day where I rode through the canyons and rode down to Grand Canyon North, Zion NP, Bryce Canyon, Escalante, Hell's Backbone. Down to Mexican Hat via Trail of the Ancients. Rode out across Monument Valley and backup up to Canyonlands NP and Moab.
Down through Colorado I took the Million Dollar highway and was finally able to find a gas cap in Albuquerque. Headed on back to the Gulf Coast from there where I dropped off the Road Glide Ultra for 10,000 mile service.
Today I went to pick up the bike and get a refund on my Ultra Limited warranty. Could not resist test riding the new Ultra Limited with the Milwaukee Eight motor.
So, when I left the Harley shop I left the Road Glide Ultra and rode off on my 2017 Ultra Limited.
Where to go next?? I'm thinking it's time to hit the East Coast. Blue Ridge up to Laconia and down the Coast next spring.

Wow, what a trip, ironheaddave, you didn't say how many days you was gone But, to get a 5,000 & a 10,000 mile service you was gone for a while. Bet you have some storys & memory for a life time to tell. would have been nice if you'll took some Pictures to share. (get 1 that's just aim & shoot).
glad & it was good you escaped injury with deer.
good luck riding your new 2017 Ultra Limited.

Ideas for east coast ride
Hey Iron Head Dave. I also live on the gulf coast and took almost the exact ride that you took this year on my 16 Limited. Last year we went to Nova Scotia and it was outstanding. Rode the parkways thru VA and then headed up to Maine, took the ferry over to Yarmouth and then all over Nova Scotia. Cabot trail is similar to the PCH coast hwy in Cali but with no traffic. Great trip. What do you like better about your 2017 Limited?.

I went up the Blue Ridge, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and down the East Coast in 2014. That was a great trip and I'm looking at doing it next year, maybe during the Laconia Rally again.
I had about 40,000 miles on the Limited when I hit the deer and though I did like the Road Glide it was a lot different. Originally I planned on keeping all three bikes but then when the Limited was totaled I was down to the Road King and the Road Glide. That and the new bikes being completely awesome made me decide to go with the Ultra Limited again.
I will probably get another Road Glide eventually. Just have to wait and see what they look like in two or three more years.

Thanks, it was a really great trip! Problems are a part of every great trip and I was certainly glad that the trip was not canceled.
I got a lot of really great photos.

I left the first time on the evening of July 30th. The deer slaying was at 12:30 am on the 31st. The following Monday evening I took off again. Got back home on August 22nd.
