Yup, the Peak to Peak Hwy is it for a Front Range ride. You can cruise it nice and easy or go more "spirited." Take Trail Ridge Rd. over the top and down into the Grand Valley, have lunch in one the towns there, then head over Berthoud Pass to I-70 and back to Idaho Springs for a nice day ride.
Or you could ride up to Georgetown, go over Guanella Pass and down to Hwy 285 and take that south to Fairplay then Hwy 9 over Hoosier Pass and up into Breckenridge, Dillon and Silvethorne and then take Hwy 6 over Loveland Pass on your way back to Idaho Springs.

I agree with QC I lived in Parker co for 8 years The Georgetown to lovelnd pass is an awesome ride. Another fun run close to where you will be is Mount Evans to Evergreen. Just follow the road (overpass) that crosses 70 at the kum and go exit. Or go up to berthoud pass (Highway 40) like qc said out to Winter Park (ride the alpine slides) then to Granby and on past Grandby you can keep going (highway 34) and that will take you over Fall rivers pass to Estes park Epic! Epic Ride! I could tell you how to go to colorado springs from idaho spring also I don't know how confused you want to be right now though. I've got about 40,000 -50,000miles worth of riding on the back roads in colorado If you like long rides just ask.
