The Journeys of Darla ....

My eldest daughter has been at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis for 5 years working on her PHd. She defended her Doctoral Thesis in Geodynamics several months back and is now “Dr.” We went for a drive up to Taylor Falls today to look at her Study Area where she based some of her work on. It is an area of Glacial Potholes and it is a pretty cool geological site... Here are a few pictures of the St Crois River that runs right beside it ... Also, this would make for a great Motorcycle ride, especially in the fall colours...
Looking North...
... looking South.
Looking North...

Smart kid there, Rocky.

Geodynamics is a subfield of geophysics dealing with dynamics of the Earth. It applies physics, chemistry and mathematics to the understanding of how mantle convection leads to plate tectonics and geologic phenomena such as seafloor spreading, mountain building, volcanoes, earthquakes, faulting and so on. It also attempts to probe the internal activity by measuring magnetic fields, gravity, and seismic waves, as well as the mineralogy of rocks and their isotopic composition. Methods of geodynamics are also applied to exploration of other planets.[1]

She worked very hard for it... all started in Grade 6 when she entered the School Science fair and won her division, right after that she went to a Science Camp... been hooked on Science since... she has a teaching gig starting in January for 4 months, then will do the next thing... she’s just not sure yet what that is. She has published 6 times and is working on 4 more.
