It was good. But started too late taking into account the heat. Tomorrow I am trying to be on the road by 7. I should be up at elevation by noon.

Stopped in Walla Walla for Breakfast and fuel. I got Second Breakfast & Elevensis and put it in the cooler as I am only stopping for fuel again before I get into Hells Canyon. I am going to Slab it to Baker City before I head East.... then will eat in "The Wild".

So I punched Baker City into the Nav and headed out to the Slab. But Darla decides she wants to switch it up and points East onto 204.... 41 miles of sweepers up and over a 5,200 pass ..... thank you BabyDoll!!

I am now heading East on 86 towards the bottom entrance of Hells Canyon...

Oh by the way, when I say I am heading "into the wild" I am not talking about picking a fight on Weathertop with 9 Black Riders who once where "Kings Of Men" ..... I am just saying there aren't enought bars on the Cell Phone to update as I am moving along .... but, just in case I run into them, I got that pocket knife in my chaps, and I am pretty sure it was in a few scraps in the American Civil War .... so I got it covered.

Hells Canyon..... gotta love the road and country. A bit pot holeish, but they very nicely circled all the bad ones with a white circle. I stopped up in the viewpoint for lunch. Met some fellows up there and one of them rode into Joseph with me. We stopped and had a beer and he is continuing onto Lewiston. I got my room and am taking a break. There is a Big Rodeo here this weekend so I am lucky I got a room at all. I will walk downtown later and check out the GoinsOns.

The Oregon trail is in the valley

First view of the mountains I will run through

In I go...

Lots and lots of this....

Hells Canyon

Dick rode to Joseph with me

A bunch of this

Very little of this.

Some basic rules of Photography (some of which I break often)

1. F8, and be there (in other words, F stop in the middle, adjust the exposure time according, but most importantly.... you can't take the shot if your not there

2. If the picture is not goood, you aren't close enough (this does not apply to pure scenics.

3. The sun should always be behind you. (I break this rule all the time for effect)

4. Don't shoot between 10 am, and 4 pm. There are no shadows for definition of your subject (again, I break this rule all the time)

5. Compose using the rule of Thirds. divide your image up into 9 sections using two lines across and two lines up and down. Put your main subject one one of the lines, and where two lines intersect. You will almost always see Darla in one of these intersections. I move around to get her there, and get the rest of the shot composed with that in mind.

6. The worse the light, the more important the composure

7. Photoshop can fix anything, except rule #1...... lol.... as long as you know how to use it, that is.

It is very easy as I have my phone set for The Rule Of Thirds.

Look where the tree is, look where the horizon is....

(Not my photograph)

Look where Darla is, look where the sign is, look where the White line starts, look where the yellow line starts and ends, look at the top of the tree line. I had to walk around a bit to do the composition. The main thing everyone will focus on is the sign, because of the statement it makes, and it's color......and where it is, the vertical line on the right third...

It is a mundane phograph, that becomes more than it really is, because of the statement of the sign, and the composition. It isn't winning any awards, but it does capture a bit of the spirit of riding. Which was my intention.
