Start as soon as possible and get that part of your trip behind you. I not sure what you want but this is a good place to look for rentals. http://www.vrbo.com/

Unless you just want to be in the midst of the rally, take a look at outlying areas -- e.g., Custer. It's about an hour away from Sturgis, convenient to lots of great riding. My group (7 bikes, 9 people) has rented a house in Custer for the past three years, always had a blast. Before checking out at the end of the rally, we would put a deposit on the house for the next year. However, after the 75th we decided that none of us were likely to be back for the 76th, so we let the house go. The realtor told us that she had another renter just waiting for us to pass on it.

Wherever you decide to stay, generally the earlier you book the better rate you can get.

Another question..... Can ya go without "air conditioning in August? Last time I was there ( 10 yrs ago ) it was smoking hot during the day. We have found a cabin near deadwood, but the other people are worried about NO air....

Staying in the Hills is generally 20* cooler than out on the plains and without the humidity that you get in Ohio, so it is not as brutal. A/C is pretty rare in the Hills.
