Starting out in the RAIN!!!
My older son and I are heading out tomorrow for Sturgis. I hate starting out a trip in the rain but it doesn't look like it is getting any better later in the week. We are going to stop by Denver for a few days to see my younger son and then on the Sturgis. Any sage advise for beginning a trip in the rain?

Stay away from semi's on the highway..or just don't travel on highways.
RAINX just came out with new product for windshields and helmet visors..it's for plastics..and my local WALMART carries it..

Well if it is going to rain, better to start the day with it raining. I hate the "should we put the rain gear on" debate. Just put it on and keep it on. Plus it is a lot easier putting it on at home then on the side of the road or in a gas station somewhere. Maybe it is a good thing for your trip. Plus now you can stop worrying about your bike being clean when you get to Sturgis.
Enjoy the ride.

My main advice would be to ride about 10 mph slower then you normally ride. And remember, most motels have a washer/dryer room so don't worry if things get wet. If you get caught and all wet somewhere in in the middle of the day en route, self service laundries are a good place to stop, hang out and dry some clothes.

I think starting out in rain is much better and easier than running into it 200 miles down the road. I hate having to stop to put rain gear on and usually will ride on into it hoping I ride out of it and dry off while riding. If raining when starting I can take my time and "wiggle" into the stuff. Just much easier as far as I'm concerned. Ripping the stuff off later is easy.
