How many days will you be out? There are some great rides & things to see in PA & upstate NY that could take a few days. If I were making the trip, I'd take 77 up to Akron, and then 76 to 80 in PA. At Clarion PA, take 66 all the way up to Kane where you pick up 6 east. Then, along 6 there's Kinzua Bridge State Park --- maybe not much more than a half hour from Kane, and a must-stop on a bike trip. (You can Google it to read the history, and why it's a cool stop.) Also on route 6 is the PA Grand Canyon. In upstate NY, Letchworth State Park is very cool. Plan on at least an hour to ride through Letchworth, and stop to see things. Google it also. You won't be disappointed with Letchworth. There's also Watkins Glen State Park in NY, and wine country all around the finger lakes. I personally like route 14 north from Watkins Glen, all the way up to Sodus Point NY. It's a little touristy-type village where you can sit at 1 of a few little restaurants & have burgers right at the edge of Lake Ontario. If you're out for a week or so, and want to head to New England, I'd go from Sodus Point over to interstate 81, up to Watertown NY, and across route 3, to 86 & through the Lake Placid area to a ferry across Lake Champlain. Gotta hit Whiteface Mountain while you're near Lake Placid, and ride the gondola up to the top. 1 of the ferries across Lake Champlain is at Fort Ticonderoga. I haven't spent a lot of time riding VT, NH, ME, so probably New England guys can help you more than I can if you're riding to ME. Northern PA & upstate NY will be great riding.

Don't know about PA but if you go to Letchworth go north out of the park on 36 and when you get to state rt. 20 go east about 130 miles until you get to Sangerfield. Go north on rt. 12. It eventually turns into 12/28 and follow 28 into the Adirondacks. At Blue Mountain Lake take rt. 30 all the way to Tupper Lake. The follow rt.3 to Lake Placid. From there go to and cross Lake Champlain like GeezrGlidr said and into Vermont.
