Default Lake Okeechobee FL restaurant recommendations

We're attending Daytona Bike Week again this year, and we'd like to take a day trip via the back roads to Lake Okeechobee. I am looking for sea food restaurant recommendations at the lake. A Yelp search has me looking at Lightsay's Restaurant, but like all on line reviews, many positive reviews with a few negative ones. I'm hoping some of you resident South Florida folks could offer some suggestions? What we want is a local joint, nothing fancy. But the food and service have to be good, with fair prices. Chain restaurants need not apply!

Thanks!

Lightsay's is a great place to eat. Don't miss the gator, sweet potato fries, and key lime pie. Definitely not a chain restaurant experience. That area is "old Florida", it will be a nice change of pace from the east coast.

Thanks for the confirmation. Our gang are all big oyster and fresh fish lovers, so it sounds like Lindsay's is the place to go. Can't wait, been a very long winter up here in PA!

Roland Martin's Tiki Bar in Clewiston (South side of the lake) is pretty good. Right on the water. Also, if you find yourself there overnight, they have clean rooms. On the way back out to 27, there is a small but good breakfast place right across the street ( can't remember the name).

Each person has their own ideas but most folks do not think sea food and Lake Okeechobee at the same time sine it is a fresh water lake.
The lake loop makes for a nice rural daylight outing, low traffic and a few limited views of the fresh water lake.
There are very few views of the lake because of the giant man made hill that circles the lake.
You will not see the lake as you drive for the most part.
Basically you must drive up and over when there is a viewing area.
Some folks are rather disappointed when they find-out they can not ride and see the lake.
Then again, it is not that pretty of a lake.
Go on google earth and look at street view so you can better understand.
You may wish to consider the nice drive from Daytona along the coast north to St Augustine which has a few things to see like a spanish fort, small historic town and a few places to eat.
Then maybe consider continuation north towards jacksonville along the coast and eating real fresh sea food along the st Johns river (fishing boats outside).
Several establishments right next to the ferry crossing on St Johns river.
Then maybe catch the ferry across.
That ride can be done in either direction and most find it very nice and the food establishments next to the ferry (south side) sometimes show-up in those food TV shows.
Another ride might be a ride across from Daytona going through ocala forest towards crystal river area..Maybe take a break for a drink or meal at the monkey bar located at Homosassa Springs were you can see the monkeys that live on a small island in the middle of waterway (see youtube).
While in Daytona you may wish to try the food in a basket place on the water (bay side) by the light house in Ponce Inlet.

IM, thanks for the additional routing suggestions. This is not our first Bike Week, so we are very familiar with the north Daytona rides up and beyond St. Augustine. I agree some good riding and eating up that way. We were looking for something different this year, thus the ride south to Lake Okeechobee. Again, thanks for the excellent suggestions.
