Been a long time. Hit that area a lot 20 years ago when I lived in lake chuck la. Thinking of a long weekend trip down and circle the lake. 191 on the la side. Don't know about the tx side.
A nice stop in Hemphill is the
Patricia Huffman Smith Columbia Museum
Lots of information on the recovery efforts after the Columbia disaster. A small fee but it's interesting. Also eat at the Feed Store cafe.
Are you kidding? Man are you bored with your surroundings? Has your bike been bad and your looking to punish it? Not trying to be disrespectful but I live in the area and heck please save your gas. Also let me know when you get here and I'll buy you a beer.

guess I coulda expounded a bit and let it be known this would be a spur off a trip back to lake Chuck to see in laws...
Back in the late 80s we used to cross into TX out of Merryville and do lots of those FM roads. They were usually in much better shape than on the LA side. They seemed like hills back then.

I just retired from the Army last year out of FT Polk La and use to love riding the TX side of the bend, but the good part only lasts about 10 minutes! Hemphill TX is the normal lunch stop. And like mentioned they have the shuttle memorial right in front of the Dairy queen.
87 on the Texas side is a nice ride. I've been wanting to go eat at the Feed Store in Hemphill since they reopened, but haven't had a chance. I live in the Toledo Town area on La side

I ate there in September. They make a great Reuben sandwich.
