Five of us had planned to meet up in Tuscumbia, Alabama, then ride north into Tennessee. The weather forecast getting weird on us so after we met up we headed east in Alabama and rode in the Fort Payne area. It was cold, and we saw a few flurries overnight in Fort Payne, but we had a great ride in an area I'd never been before. Four days of riding we had two good weather days, one cold day, and one chilly but windy day, but we dodged the rain and snow. Glad we didn't go into Tennessee like we'd planned.

TN had snow? Wow. We haven't had snow in my part of NE Wisconsin yet. Hope it holds off for a while. I haven't fished my snowblower out of the barn yet. I better get on that.

Lots of good riding in the Fort Payne area. Sucks when the weather doesn't coopera with your riding plans

I got hooked in snow one time which hurt with a springer that doesn't have a front fender. To make it home I stopped at a grocery store to get a grocery bag to tie across the forks over the twenty one inch front tire. I even had to stop every once in a while to warm my hands on the engine. Tire skating can be just like down hill snow skating.

Rode to Albq yesterday from Las Cruces. Woke up this morning to rain, sleet, snow, and wind. 200 miles is a long way when it's that cold. Jim

We sorta did. We rode down to Raleigh from Wisconsin. That went pretty well. But, our plan to head west from Raleigh to the Smokies got crushed with all that snow they got. We layed low for an extra day and headed out that Sunday. We chose a northerly route, which oddly enough had less snow. But, it was still plenty cold - about 26 degrees in the mornings and warmed to the low 40s. Here's a shot along US 52 -

Not at all bad, but as mentioned, a little chilly. It wasn't until we made it to Chicago that things started to warm up oddly enough.

So did we get caught in it? No. Did we get rerouted because of it? Yes.

School closed here today, we've got 2" here. Don't know what our school system would do if they had to deal with real winter like they do up north.
Rain and the 50's by the end of the week
