10VM 3/4 Helmet with Retractable Sun Shield
I have the Harley Davidson 10VM ¾ Helmet with Retractable Sun Shield.
Been using it for about 600 miles. The overall construction and quality seems to be very good. This helmet fits me well. My longest ride with it so far was about 60 miles. No pressure spots and was comfortable the whole time. I wear prescription glasses. Sometimes the eyeglass arms get hung up in the padding when I put them on but it is not a real issue. Fit/Comfort Grade : A
I am not sure how ‘normal’ the noise level is but; it seems loud to me even with ear plugs. My last two helmets were a full face Aria and an HJC 3/4. I wore the full face most of the time so my perception here may not be fair. Noise Grade: C
The face shield seems to direct air right into my eyes. This may be exaggerated due to wearing eyeglasses. Slightly tucking my chin down almost eliminates this effect so it is not a big deal. Face Shield Grade: B
The part that made this helmet most appealing, the Retractable Sun Shield. There are 2 usable positions for the Sun Shield, one high and one low. It easily slides into place by moving the slider on top of the helmet and smoothly retracts by pressing the button. This works well even with winter gloves. The high position essentially keeps the sun off of the top of my forehead and does nothing to shield my eyes. The low position puts the bottom of the sun shield right across my line of sight. I have to really tuck my head down to avoid this. I do not recall this issue when I tried it on, but here I am now. The sun shield is not dark enough to help with sun glare. Even calling it a sun screen would be an exaggeration. It does work well when the sun is behind me. My old 3/4 with the snap on sun visor or my old full face with sun glasses did a much better job. I am tempted to apply a dark window tint film to the so called ‘Sun Shield’. Sun Shield Grade: F
Overall the helmet is well constructed with quality material. However; the short comings with the noise level and the poor Sun Shield cannot be overlooked. Since the Sun Shield is the point of this particular helmet it contributes greatly to the value grade. I feel that I should have purchased the standard ¾ with Sun Visor and put the $45 difference to prescription sunglasses or just bought the full face. Value Grade: D
I am AladinSane and I do not endorse anything that I say
