Default Metzeler ME880 tires

I put a pair of Metzeler ME880 tires on my Night Train just before I went on my 3000 mile raodtrip, that included riding the Tail of The Dragon. All I can say is WOW!!! These tires are simply awesome in the curves. The tires really dig in and I can lean way over while maintaining perfect control. They took a little getting used to after the 10000 miles I put on the original Dunlops. They handle very differently. Sonce tey have a ronder profile, they "fall" on their side much easier, which of course makes cornering much easier and quicker. When I first rode with them, I thought my front tire was losing grip, hehehe...

I will be using hese tires from now on.

Cheers!

I love them too. Wait till you experience some rain grooves or uneven surfaces.... the difference between them and Dunlops is like night and day.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that. The original Dunlops used to really follow the grooves, and felt squirrely. With the Metzelers, I almost didn't feel any difference between a grooved surface or a good flat surface. Another BIG plus for the Metzelers. And, they're great in the rain too (it rained the first couple of days of the trip).

Cheers!

How about longevity? What kind of milage are people getting on the Metzlers? I always put Metzlers on my old Honda and they were great but short lived. Now the riding is for the scenery and long haul. I would hate replacing them every 8k miles.

I agree with what your saying about the Metzelers. The staight line tracking is much better than the original Dunlops. Road grooves don't bother them and the handling in turns is night and day. I've had mine on for about 4,000 miles now and see no signs of wear and i ride them pretty hard in turns. IMO they are worth whatever reduced mileage i might see.

I've got almost 8,000 miles on mine and they're starting to show some wear.(burnout? not me) Very happy with them, should easily get another 5-6,000 miles before replacing them. will buy another set next time too.

besides putting progressive lower springs in the front the switch to metz from dunlops is literally like riding a totally different bike. made the switch over the weekend and am still adjusting to the new/better way the bike handles. loving the difference!

Ditto here..............I agree with all the above. I switched from Dunlops to 880s w/out any mods and i can really tell the difference in the ride and handling. I was skeptical, but now a beleiver! Just know that a bit more pressure is required.
