Default communication devices....need advice to buy

I'm trying ot figure out what type of device to buy to communicate Bike to Bike for our trip to Americade. I see Chatterbox on eBay and others, but have no idea which one has good reviews. Any of you trippers out there happy with any systems.

I have to ask...Do you want something that you'll use all the time or just once or twice a year on a trip? Stay away from the FRS systems unless you just want to talk to only someone else with the same setup. Most tourers use CB. Cheapest way to go is a Midland hand held CB witha handle bar mount with a J&M wiring harness and head set.
Their handle bar mounted CB is the nicest I've seen. Not cheap but its the way I'd go if I didn't have a bagger and wanted something I would use all the time.J&M
Search their site for the Midland set up too but you can find it cheaper on Ebay I'm sure. Just get their harness and head set for a pretty good system.

Hi 05 Ultra...........thx for the info. It would only be 1-2 times per year for long trips..........and thats it. I have a few close buddies and we thought it would be fun if it wasn't too expensive as we go up to Americade.

I'll be there too. Going up on Tuesday I think. You'll love talking on the CB. Makes the time go by faster and staying touch when someones in trouble or needs gas (or look at the babe in the black beamer)
Have fun.

Don't buy aCB..old technology. Get a FRS/GMRS. I suggest Autocomm.

Chatterbox looks cool and writeups indicate it should be a great product. But I have spoken to several people who have commented they are useless above 45-50mph; can't hear anything.

I'm researching this myself. I'm leaning toward an FRS setup since the radios are cheap. Headsets are pretty easy to find and you won't break the bank building a setup. Its not one stop shopping but that could help you tailor the system to your needs.

I found a place that has throat mics that allegedly work well, even under speed. Only negative is not having a PTT button I can mount on the bars or on thumb. http://www.bluekangarootechnologies.com/

If I can't find an FRS headset that'll work I'll look into portable CB's. But the shortfall there might also be the headsets.

I have an Autocomm unt that I could sell. It is the Promodel includes hookups for a 12 V system so could be wired into a bike. Also have the hlemet setup two mikes, one used one brand new as well as a Kenwood Freestyle XL FRS/GMRS radio.

It works great I just do not need it on my Ultra. I used on my 2005 Road king.

Anyone got word on Motocomm's system? Comments, reviews, etc. Seems like a decently priced setup, not too expensive, not too cheap. Can anyone tell me if its worth the $$ as an all in one system. Or is it just better to fork over the extra cash?
