The Redline website in the gear oil section quotes:

'Coming soon for the V-twin market, Big Twin Transmission Oil with Shockproof and Big Twin Primary Gear Oil!'

Hmmmm!! Wonder how this will differ from the Shockproof Heavy and the MTL?

Anybody using Brad Penn Oils and gear lubes or are they too slick for the tranny and clutch plates?

Yeah, my first Harley tooand I love it, but I wish it would have been a little better experience (noise problems). I've been riding a couple differentmetric cruisersfor the last few years.

Check HD's financials for 2006
"more than half of all bikes sold went to new customers."

What's your point?

This is much heavier fluid than I would believe HD would approve, esp for those still in cold weather.I would at least consider what has happened before w/sheared dip sticks.
I changed to Royal Purple 85w140 and called my HD shop first to ask their opinion about the viscosity. They said no problem, that they've used Belray (equivalent viscosity) for years with no problems. On open-bearing mechanisms (ball, needle), this viscosity, which is equivalent to a 20w50 motor oil, is fine.

I got the Syn3 out of the bike today. Amsoil 20-50 in motor and primary with BelRay Gear Saver 85/140 in the tranny. First impressions are positive, but not near the difference I was hoping for. Overall the engine is a littlemore quietand can't really tell about the heat, and 5th gear is quiet on steady throttle (I can hear my pipes). But the minute the engine goes under a load to accelerate, the rattling comes back. Oh well. Leaving for Amarillo in two weeks and Colorado (with the forum) in June.
Later.

After the wife and I bought our first Harley some of our friends went and bought new ones. Andall of them made noises. So Richard put long shots on his and took the baffles out and he's happy.

Oh, forgot, thanxs so much for the tip about the gear oil. Dealer gave me the thin stuff and it's hard to shift. thought I needed a tranny rebuild.
