25 to 24 tooth sprocket problem
I am trying to swap the 25 tooth primary engine sprocket for the 24 tooth on my 98 Heritage Springer. Everything I have read says it will fit a 98 Softail. I installed it and my chain tensioner could not take up the slack. I thought it might be the fact that I use an after market hydraulic unit so I tried the stock part. Still have slack in the chain. The chain is the same part used on bikes that originally came with the 24 tooth sprocket.
Is my chain shot or is this another fits everything but FLSTS thing? I can pick up a chain on Monday but if this just won't work on my bike I don't want to waste the money. Anyone else get this to work or have any advice?

RE: 25 to 24 tooth sprocket problem
Yes it is slightly smaller but the tensioner should be able to make up the difference. Here is one page I found info on - http://www.heavydutycycles.com/Finaldrivea.htm
Info on the 24 tooth sprocket swap is about halfway down the page. The chain could be stretched but I just want to find someone that got this to work before I spend more money on it. The chain has about 20K on it. I thought it should still be in good shape with that mileage on it.

RE: 25 to 24 tooth sprocket problem
Found the answer.
I had to use the stock tensioner and invert the mount. There are two sets of holes so it will work with either setup. I never saw an older bike so I had no idea it could mount that way. Critical piece of information. Works perfectly. I was lucky to find someone that could explain this to me before I wasted money on a chain.
