RE: primarary chain adjustment
Thanks to all on this thread. I have been using HD syn for all three and will stop. I dont want to take any chances and the bit about
HD saying dont use syn and now they have "their" wonder fluid. Why am I so gullible. I want to believe in my dealer but if I take
a second and think about it, why would I not use the RedLine Shock?? And as far as that goes I think I will change everything
away from HD fluids. Mark

How about the warranty?
I just switched over to Mobil 20w50 VTwin in the engine since HD specifies a 20w50 oil so I figure I am safe (warranty wise) there.
I am using HD Primary oil in the primary and HD Trans Oil in the trans.
Since HD does not specify the viscosity for the two aforementioned oils wouldn't going to Mobil Gear Lube or ATF allow HD to void a warranty claim if it was oil related?

RE: primarary chain adjustment
Well, I just replaced the SYN 3 oil in my tranny with Mobil 1 70/90. and
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a differance. shifts very easy, the clunk is still there but its hardly noticable.
Thanks guys for all the info. when my next oil change comes, prob when I take it out in the spring I will change over to Mobil 1 in the primary and oil.
Thanks again. Its just very hard to believe cause both of them look and feel almost the same so my first impression when I was changing is was not to get my hopes up to high.
IM SOLD.....

Ya know, I was with you all the way untill I read this part[sm=dontgetit.gif]
You are a real intelligent person but I can't see you doing this whats so ever
What I use - Usually Mobil 1 15w-50 gold cap automotive oil in the engine, but this last change I tried some Royal Purple 20w-50 car oil.

As long as the oil or gear lube you use meets or exceeds the API specs for your year of bike, HD can't deny any warranty claim. It's covered under a federal law, Magnuson-Moss. And if they were foolish enough to try to deny a claim based upon your using a product proven superior to their own branded product, Mobil or whatever other company's product you used would cover the repairs.
augason sed: the bit about HD saying dont use syn and now they have "their" wonder fluid.
All HD ever said was they couldn't recommend using a synthetic oil as they had never tested its use in their bikes. Once they contracted to have an oil made, they tested it, and recommended it. No different than GM not recommending Ford oil. 'Course some dealers stretched things a bit by saying syn oils would ruin an HD motor.... [8D]

RE: primarary chain adjustment
Hello, I just installed the new primary chain tightener by Harley and it took me 90 minutes to do. Running to running! I have found that when the bike is brand new it requires about 3 adjustments prior to it settleing down and not expanding. You must loosen the 9/16 nut and the entire saddle which supports the bottom of the chain moves up and down. Increasing and decreasing tension on the chain. With the automatic adjuster still secure with the ty wrap still in place, you adjust the chain for a 1 inch defelection and then tighten the 9/16 nut. Also tighten the bolts securing the auto adjuster to the mount assembly. Then you remove the Ty-wrap and it moves into place providing a somewhat snug fit. You then apply tension to the top of the chain to verify the tensioner is functioning. If the nylon shoe on the auto adjuster moves slightly up and down, the install was successful. Its now tight and I feel better about the life of the chain too. The 06 Dynas dont have a inspection cover any more. No adjustments can be made! Peter
