clutch lever free play

clutch lever free play
changed the primary oil and adjusted the clutch about 2000 miles ago and have had no problems. yesterday, i noticed the clutch lever was way too slack, way more free play than what i adjusted for originally. So, i took up the slack by way of the adjuster on the cable, took it out for about 15 miles in the city (a lot of clutch use), and once again there is more free play at the clutch lever.
Could the pushrod adjuster bolt have come loose or do you think something else maybe going on here...any thoughts are welcome

clutch adjustment is a two step process, with clutch basket pushrod adjustment first & then cable adjustment. check your service manual for procedure.
fyi - i changed all my cables to HD diamondback braided & twice the clutch cable broke in the same place. replaced HD diamondback clutch cable with Barnett braided cable, problem solved. no problem with diamondback thottle cables.
