Default engine swap

Hi,
My question is , can I swap a 2006-07 96 b-motor with a 2001 fxst softail.
My main motor bearing went on me on my last road trip. took out the stator and cracked the lower housing for the motor. I can get a gooddeal on ebay for a newer motor, but, not sure if it will fit & run without any major modifications.

No , it`s the b motor. I have a 2001 fxst softail. Looking to put a 2006-07 b motor in it, Will it work. Is there any special changes i would have to make. Or would it just bolt up.
Thanks

You have posted this question at least twice; the answer will always be the same. If I read this and your other post correctly, your question is whether or not a "B" motor from a later 96" softail will "bolt in" to the frame of an earlier 88" softail. The direct answer is NO, it won't.

An indirect answer is that with enough money and time, you can do anything. The primaries are completely different and the later 96" engine cases bolted up to a six speed transmission. I am not sure (Mark should know) whether or not the early five speed will directly bolt up. It will be a painful and expensive undertaking and one that, IMHO, should be avoided; there are too many other alternatives that will work.
