Default Dealer Tech forgot Trans oil 1K svc !

After riding for about 300 miles after the 1K Serviceon my 05 FXD , I checked my trans oil level and observed none on the stick. I removed the drain plug and drained approx 6 oz. of clean trans oil.
Apparently the tech forgot to refill after service. I checked all the obvious places for oil to go, leaks, pass thru to the primary side per the dealer.
The trans shifted ok duruing this time and after I correctly refilled Trans the shifting is OK.
Questions ; Will this have any long term wear ?
ShouldI have the oil analyzed in 6 mo for metal particles ?
Anybody else out there with this unfortunate occurance ?

What's the dealer saying about what he did (or rather, didn't do)?

Guess that's a good lesson for all of us to check our bikes after getting any kind of service done.

That is why I do all my service work or maintenancemyself. I just keep records and receipts in a log book, I even do my own 500/1000milebreak in service and inspection myself.

By law they can not disregard or void warranty work if needed because you did the maintenance yourself. If you do not keep records or the reciepts it may be a diffrent story when it comes to a warranty issue concerning maintenance or lack of.

I dothe work or maintenanceright from the get go.This keeps me fromhaving toworry about them scraching something or forgeting something ( in generalif you want it done right, do it yourself.) I myself am just way to picky about my Harley in general.

Get a service manuel specific to your bike and you will find you can do most everything yourself.

I would make sure what they did is documented with the shop you had the work done at just in case your trany fails down the road.

Take care,
Bill G

Yes it could affect the long term wear.

I wouldn't wait that long. http://www.blackstone-labs.com/motorcycle.html

I better not.

Have youtalked to the service dept yet?
Sounds odd that there would be 6 oz. in there if it was drained.

First I would save all that oil and send an uncontaminated sample to Blackstone and get the analysis report. Second refill the trans with a synthetic 75w90 gear oil like Mobil1 or Amsoil or Redline Shockproof Heavy. Third check for any leaks....you may have a leak. Was there any oil on the bottom of the trans case near the drain bolt? Maybe the tech didn't torque it back on.

And...finally, I would buy a service manual and the necessary tools and do your fluid service yourself....

Thank you all for your advice and concern. The dealer service mangler defended his tech of course, and reluctantly agreed to extend the trans warranty for 6 mo.
The reason 6 oz remains is they drain and refill quickly and 4-6oz can remain if the bike is on the level not on the side stand per the service mangler. Who knows ?
Yes I will get the manual and do my own work from now on. I saved the 6oz of oil and will get it analyzed, and the next oil drain also.
Thanks again for the feedback....
