Default busted comp nut

Good morning. I've got an 88 heritage softail that I needed to get the primary off to get to clutch linkage on. apparently it isn't left hand threaded like the book said, or like the nut on the clutch, so the question is.. how do you get the rest of the nut off? does anyone have a blowup of that part of the crankshaft so I can see if I can cut off the splined piece to get to the rest of the nut? or What??????????

I've done this before. Used a dremel with a titanium carbide grinder and cut off the splined extension shaft. Had to cut a slot in the nut extension and use a chisel to drive the nut off. The nut has right hand threads. Once the nut is loose a pair of vise grips should remove it.

A cut off wheel on a die grinder used to cut off the extension shaft around the nut will also work. Apply heat to the broken nut and use vise grips to remove.

Cut off end of # 20.

Buy a new nut and extension shaft.

Ahh, the book does not say the comp nut is left hand thread, it says the clutch hub nut is LH thread...

But sometimes guys will get mixed up and tell you it is LH thread and you crank on the nut until it gives up the ghost...

Don`t feel like the lone ranger on this one, I did the exact same thing about 20 years ago, and the shop manual was lying right on the toolbox next to the bike....

It's the same, cut around the splined snout with out cutting through the nut, used the exposed nut shaft to screw it off.
