Squishy clutch
Greetings,
I recently replaced my stock clutch plates with a set of screaming eagle clutch plates. I wanted to stick with the stock equipment, but harley had none in stock. The bike is fully stock including the clutch basket. When I took the bike out after doing the adjustments (according to the harley manual) I noticed that the clutch would not enguage until the handle was two thirds released. The clutch was operational, but very different from the stock plates. There was no change thoughout the 1000 mile ride I did after changing it.
Did I adjust the clutch wrong or screw something up? Thanks

When you adjusted the clutch hub did you loosen the slack adjuster on the clutch cable first?
If not you have to re-adjust the clutch after loosening the clutch cable slack adjuster, re-set the clutch adjuster nut then re-tighten the clutch cable adjuster so you have no play in your clutch handle. I always set mine to start pulling the clutch as soon as I start to pull the clutch handle

You want to loosen the clutch cable adjuster first.
Then remove your derby cover and loosen the lock nut while holding your adjusting screw with a allen wrench.
Once the lock nut is loose, back out the adjuster screw with your allen wrench a 1/2 to 3/4 turn, then with the allen wrench screw in the adjuster screw in until you feel some resistance ( tightening ).
Back out the adjuster screw 1/8 to 1/4 turn with your allen wrench. Then take your wrench for the lock nut while still holding the allen wrench in your adjuster screw and tighten the lock nut.
Once you do that, lengthen your clutch cable adjuster until you have no play in your clutch handle. You only need to to tighten it enough to remove the play and it should start pulling the clutch cable. Tighten your lock nuts on the clutch cable, pull the rubber cover up over the adjuster and button up your derby cover. You should be ready to ride
