I have a 75 xlch, my first bike, I bought it in pieces and built/restored it. I am able to put the bike in neutral and first, but cannot shift to any higher gears. I need guidance on what to look for to fix this problem. it rides fine in first, but nothing higher. please help.

 

Would love to, but we are miles apart! Can you engage any other gears while the engine is not running? Gently rock the bike to and fro while trying to engage gear. If not, then I can see no option but to dismantle the entire thing and check what has gone wrong inside the trans.
