Default Belt broken

My bro just broke a belt on an 06 night train. Went to the dealer, they wont cover it under warranty. Was kinda freyed. How ofter does this happen? I was under the impression they lasted a long time. He even called the district manager and no warranty. New belt is 178 + installation, total about 400 bucks. THis just sounds all wrong to me......

Brother, $400 to change a drive belt is a ripoff IMO...My '06 belt (after 2800 miles) still looks pretty much like new.

400 bucks is pretty cheap. Most belt jobs cost a little more than that. 178 bucks for a belt, a few gaskets, primary lube. Parts will run over 200 bucks. 200 bucks labor is fairly cheap. A belt swap is a good half day job.

How often does it happen? Not that often. Most belts run upwards of 100k. However, it only takes one rock chucked up there to break 'em sometimes.

$400 to replace a belt is more than I would be willing to pay. Follow your manual and do it yourself. It isn't difficult, just takes time.

Good news, he went to my dealer Roanoke harley, and they will cover under the 2 year warranty. As Ive said before Wytheville harley sucks, they told him no dice on warranty, and thats were he got the bike.

Remember it's a Harley factory warranty, but the dealer has to describe the issue to the Motor Company and frame it in the best interest of their customer. Sounds like your dealer did a better job for him than his selling dealer. He should remember that before his next purchase.

Yep. Roanoke is pretty fair. Wytheville does lack in most areas. I've heard some real horror stories coming out of their service department.
