Too loose and it will get a jerking motion at slow speeds and too tight will wear the chain sprockets faster than normal and possibly damage bearings and seals.If you had any movement in the chain, you're probably not too tight. If you don't get a chain noise, it's probably safe to ride it to work, but have it checked out soon before any damage happens.
Don't know why they couldn't have an adjuster like the rear axle adjuster going through the cover with a lock nut setup. I'll have to work on that and sell it to the MOCO
There is a locking nut that you loosen. You then insert an allen wrench in the bolt and turn it until the primary is adjusted. You then tighten the locking nut and you are done!!!!!
