I've got 115K on my '92 belt with no problems. Run your fingers across the nubs once in a while, both directions, to see if any nubs are split or missing.
I had a rip 1/3 of the way through the belt and the mechanic at the dealership suggested I just keep riding it. I went a further 17,000km on that belt and when I looked at the rip again it had not changed at all! Most likely I got the rip from doing a stupid burnout on a gravel parking lot.
