Default primary noise when warm

2011 Road Glide Custom 103" with 7000 miles. Only after a longer ride, the primary makes noise when in neutral with the clutch released. Pull in the clutch and instantly quiet. Sounds like Ducati's I've owned with dry clutches only not as loud. But this bike only does it when warm. Never heard it before but if this is normal maybe I just didn't pay attention til now. Is this bad? Should there be any noise? Thanks

If the noise goes away when you drop it into first gear then I suspect it is the inner primary bearing going bad. If not then your primary chain might just be loose and stretched a bit after initial break in. Do this:

1. Accelerate up to 5000 rpm in 1st gear and let off and brake hard with the rear brake only. (do not lock rear wheel).
2. Do this 3 times.
3 This should cause your primary chain adjuster to click up a notch and the noise should disappear.

OK, thanks I'll try that. The noise is only when I release the clutch handle in neutral. When I pull in the clutch handle it is quiet. It sounds exactly like a dry clutch set up. When I have it in gear and let the clutch out I do not hear it.

It's called (neutral rattle). And it is, dare I say, normal. It's more than likely coming from the right side of the trany.

Hmmmm, I'll make sure I pay closer attention to see exactly where it comes from. Would it make sense that it only does it after a long ride? Thanks

Perfect, that explains it. It doesn't happen on my 09 fatboy, but on the 2011 RG it does. Perfect. Thanks

I cant believe it took you 7000 miles to hear it! My 09 had it and my 11 has it even worse.

The only thing normal about it is that mo co is doing nothing about it.
