The manual recommends you disconnect the battery negative cable. Not sure why with the primary cover.
Lay out some newspaper, lay the new gasket on this paper.
Drain the primary fluid.
Remove what? 13 bolts, as you do lay them on the newspaper in the position where they came out. My manual shows two different lengths.
Clean up the surfaces. Clean out the bolt holes. clean the bolts. Don't just slap at it. Make sure everything is clean.
Some people use silicone sealer, some use aviation gasket cement, some people swear by nothing but a little oil.
If you use something remember very light covering. Not gobs.
If you have a FXDWG there is a sleeve and sleeve fastner that HD recommends using two drops of 262 Loctite. Myself I use loctite on everything.
Put it back together. I usually tack the gasket to the cover this will hold it in place while you get the bolts in. Finger tight the bolts.
Now torque the bolts in the recommended rotation. My manual says 108 to 120 inch lbs.
Put fresh fluid in, ride for at least 30 to 45 minutes to get up to temp, and check the torque.
You should be able to do it in about 2 hours including beers.
