Dry Trans

Thanks for the quick reply Stiggy.
I bought an 05 Road Glide sight unseen, and have been spending the last month cleaning and replacing incorrect hardware and parts.
Yesterday was my first real ride on it, and I can't believe I road it without checking the fluid level in the trans.
It shifted fine, but near the end of the day, 4th gear got noisy. With fresh fluid it quieted down, and seems to be fine.
I'm going to put a couple hundred miles on it and change the fluid again.

Stories like this are a good reason to use synthetic oil. My friend rode his FB 200 miles with a leaky trans seal that had leaked the trans dry. He had Mobil1gear oil in it and it didn't overheat with just 1-2 ounces of oil. I was amazed as he pulled the trans and there were no heat marks on the gears.
