Primary Chain Adjuster Failure!
#11
Here is a pic of the Wedge 2 installed. Buttoned her up and did a short test ride. All I can say is WOW! My primary has NEVER been this quiet. The bike feels like it got its ***** back. I can now hammer the throttle with NO metal hitting metal sounds. It shifts like butter.
If you even suspect your auto tensioner is bad, do this mod. You will be glad you did. Read the post entitled, "Inside my primary..WTF in the touring section. Lots of good information there. Those guys convinced me to try this. I don't work for HOT Bikes, but I wish they would hire me to push thier product. I am a true believer now!

Clayvis,
How tight is that chain?
You should have 1/2"-5/8" play in the top portion of the chain when the drivetrain is cold.
From what I see in your pics, the top of the chain should droop a little with the proper play in it.
The tensioner is not supposed to take any pressure.
The engine rotates CCW looking at the compensator, so the chain gets pulled from the top, leaving the "slop" at the bottom. The tensioner just takes up that "slop".
