I have an 82 4 speed. The problem i am having is that there is play when i get the sprocket locknut tightened down it actually lets the main drive gear touch the inside of the case. The movement is about 1/32 of an inch. Is this a normal thing? I have some pictures if it would help. Not knowing much about these transmissions I have another question. What is the Main drive gear supposed ride on? I am thinking i may have the incorrect main gear and spacer? Any help would be amazing! Thanks!

As long as it's not shaving alum 1/32 ain't bad The biggest problems with this period 4 speeds was the seal through the case (left side )
