Default proper clutch adjustment

i recently had to replace the stator in my ultra classic evo 1340 and unfortunatly didnt pay attention when i took everything apart. it's all back together and runs great. my concern is the adjustment of the clutch. i don't know the proper steps to take with the adjustment screw and jam-nut. can someone lead me in the right direction?

Surely you didnt replace your stator by channeling the spirit of William Harley. The same book has the steps to adjust the clutch. Or do a search, that same question has been asked here 54 times. 55 now.

Come on oldbiker.....let's give the guy a hand.

Assuming you did not adjust the clutch lever with the slack-adjuster in the middle of the cable...here is all you will have to do.

Loosen the lock nut....turn the adjustment screw in until you "feel resistance"....back her out around 1/2-3/4 turn and lock the nut down.

Now...if this don't work out and you find your clutch lever not where you want it...you will have to adjust the free-play at the perch with the barrel adjuster there in the middle of the cable. If nothing works...this could mean the lifting mechanism is stuck and may require further foolin'-around.

Actually, if all you did was replace the stator you should not even have to adjust the clutch or loosen that adjustment in the first place, but maybe you had to dig around and investigate just how all that came apart...I suppose.

If it is running great and clutch is not slipping or any difficulty shifting through gears it would appear to be relatively close already. If it is slipping you need to loosen jam-nut and back screw out about a 1/4 turn, then tighten jam-nut. If your clutch cable has the proper slack at the handlebar, no more than 1/8 play, you're good to go.
