I tried to break my compensator nut loose but didn't have any luck. I know its left hand threads but the outer part wanted to turn with the nut. Is that normal?
i tighten my assembly up over the weekend. Rode my bike all weekend and the same knock devolped..Now I checked the 1 1/2 nut and it was loose again. So, tonight I am going to lock tight the nut and impact it on ..Hope it works. But you need to check and see if the nuts is loose. Mine was not obviously loose, but I could turn the cover and see the nut was loose.
I'm having the same issue now. There is a Harley service sheet out on it, but my copy is at work and don't remember the number. The biggest thing I remember is 2 drops of red loctite on the nut when it goes back on.
I got the compensator off last night and can't find a thing wrong with it . Back to square one.
Replace the comp assembly. If the springs lose their tension over time you will get slop in it. WHile in there check your stator/rotor assembly and the front shaft bearing. With all disassembled see if you can wiggle the shaft up and down at all. If the shaft wiggles up and down you have a bad bearing OR an elongated hole in the case. But my guess is your compensator. They do make a heavy duty screaming eagle compensator that is really bullet proof but not sure if it will fit your TC. The next time I open my primary I am installing the SE comp.
use an impact it will eliminate any damage to the housing or sprocket. Then use red locktite not blue. Clean very well before aplying and use again an impact to install. the rotor needs to be seated good and not spin after tightening. hope this helps.
