Default How Many Miles Should I Expect to Get From a Stock Clutch?

2007 Softail Custom. How long before I'm thinking about a new clutch?

Thanks

Depends on how much you slip them but 50k is a good guesstimate.

Why is yours feeling worn already? I think the guy that had mine before I got it wore the clutch plates down more that he should have.

No, the clutch feels great. I just couldn't help think about its life span while I was adjusting it today.

How much of a PITA is it to replace a clutch, anyway? Anything else I should do while I'm in there?

Thanks

Mine's got 79k miles on it. I have only adjusted it a couple of times.

Not hard to change out.

Don't worry about it.

I have 125k on an '01 Wide Glide. I checked it at 85K with engine rebuild and all was within limits. I've had no trouble so far.

I got 115,000 miles on the stock clutch on my `89 Softail. It was still working fine but I replaced it because I changed the gearset to a splined mainshaft configuration.

Not like a Cage wet clutches should last a long time with a few adjustments.

I had the outer clutch hub replaced along with a general rebuild at 85,000 miles. At 158,000 miles I'm still running my original clutch plates ('94 Softail).

Stop looking for things to worry about! They will find you when they are ready. I have never replaced a clutch due to wear on any of my bikes, in almost half a million miles. Occasional clutch adjustments are a fact of life. Just ride and enjoy life!
