Default grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Last year about 3 hours from home the bike gets stuck in 5th gear at 11:00 at night...... I rode it all the way home, smokin the clutch takin off, and windin up the rpms to get it movin. The next day I found the shifter lever stripped out. Yeah the one that bolts onto the tranny behind the primary. I replaced it and put it all toghter.

Today I decided to go around the block and hit 2nd gear and the shifter went to the floorboard... the damn thing is broke again.. layin out in the garage, Im so hot I could throw a wrench at it.[:@] So to my question.. who makes something better than the JUNK hd pewter shift lever? Im not goin through this again.

Did you replace the shifter AND the shaft? Usually these strip from being loose for too long, then someone replaces only 1/2 the parts and it strips again.

as long as the splines on the shaft are good, just replace the lever and make sure you have it snugged upped and locked good. I don't know what to tell you about the repeated stripping of the lever. You might be doing some really hard shifting which might require you to get a liter boot, so your foot is not so heavy.

I had this problem a while back on my 1998 Wide Glide. The cure that worked for me thus far is, to take a new stock shift paw and (where the paw clamps together) grind it out about an 1/8 inch more, thus opening the clamp area. Hope this works for you.

Did you replace the shifter linkage? If seen where you'll have to move that shifter on the pawl because it hits the the back of the primary. If you haven't replaced the shifter linkage rod, maybe a thicker, beefier one takes some of the force of your shifting style.
