Loss of gears
#21
My 06 Heritage started to lock into first and second, too.
I stomp on both levers and it goes away - for a while. I roll down the road doing a fandango on the levers. I spend more energy trying to get into 3rd than I would if I walked the same distance.
Then ...
Today Crankenstein ran perfectly. Smooth shift up and down.
I did soak it in Dr. WD 40's Mystical Ju Ju fluid and - so far today - that's all.
My friend who knows Heritages better than most folks said, "Check the transmission fluid."
I did.
It was almost dry (!) and I had a dealer work it over last week. With dealers like that who needs Ebola?
Anyway, I brought the level up with a little Bust Head with a shot of Screech. That always works when I can't get out of reverse gear myself.
It seemed to work on Crankenstein - so far.
It might have been the lever and it might have been Crankenstein needing some ream cream. It may still need a little brutal, indifferent care.
My best advice is to ignore all the advice I give.
