Exclamation Lighten Counterbalance weights on B Motor

I am considering lightening the counterbalance weights on my 2005 fatboy while I have the cases split to true plug and weld my flywheel. Has anyone ever done this? Will it increase throttle responce, rev better? I am wanting any information on any performace upgrade that can be done to the counterbalance system while I have my cases split. I would like to know hoe much weight to machine off and the best way to do this.

I'd put a woods 408 cam in before fooling with the basic innards of the B engine. If you just want to go fast.
Unless an all out drag racer then I would get a A engine.
I would do the Woods 408 but I worry about the 20mm belt on the my 08 Fatboy. You don't have to worry about that.

I think some would weld the counter weights, they are pressed on like the crank is pressed together.

You might want to consider sending the flywheels out to Balance Masters to have their product installed by them. They machine a groove around one of the flywheels and install a type of bladder that is filled with a Mercury type fluid and that will help offset the engine pulse generated by the motor while running. You may not even need to have the stock counter balancer installed once you get the flywheels back from Balance Masters. Just a thought… Good luck with whatever your decision is and ride safe out there!

Thanks for the info. I am going to send the flywheel to Darkhorse for true plug and weld. I was just going to have the counterbalance weights machined down a little to lighten the load. I figured this will make the bike respond a little quicker. I am not concerned with having the flywheel balanced due to the fact I am running a B motor that uses the counterweights to take out the vibrations. Just thought taking some weight off would give the motor a quicker throttle responce.

As you take off some weight off the counterbalancers they become less effective in doing their job , keep that in mind when doing your crank and taking off material on the cb's.
